Community Tourism Diaspora Initiative 2016
Donegal County Council has today announced that funding applications are being invited from groups and organisations to support local community based festivals and events in 2016.
This initiative, which was launched in 2014, provides a national fund of €1m to support local community-based events and festivals. Last year, 58 local events were supported in Donegal, attracting up to 14,000 visitors from overseas. The festivals funded last year included:
Although this is a national scheme, it is being administered locally by Donegal County Council and funding applications and awards will be decided in accordance with agreed national criteria.
Announcing this year’s funding, Liam Ward, Director of Service with Donegal County Council stated “we all witnessed the benefits from The Gathering and this scheme gives us an opportunity to build on its legacy.
“The Community Tourism Initiative allows us to sustain many of the grass roots networks which sprang to life during The Gathering in Donegal and sustain an infrastructure of events and relationships which will have long term tourism and social benefits for this region for many years to come”.
He added “for that reason, I would urge anyone out there with a good idea or interesting event, which would help us to reach out to the diaspora, to get in touch with us and make an application”
The application process for 2016 is now open and will close on 11th March 2016. The 2016 Community Tourism Diaspora form can be downloaded here. For more information contact Iga Lawne at [email protected].
